Jog Scotland

Here at Westwoods we work in partnership with jogScotland, providing running groups on a Tuesday evening.

The groups take various scenic routes including to the coast and back, through local parks and up to Edinburgh Castle Esplanade and back, a particular favourite of our runners. The picture on the right was taken during a 10k on a recent Saturday morning run. Running in a group is a great way to get motivated, gain a sense of achievement and meet new people and all our groups have a great team spirit.

The groups are led by Alison Stewart and Andrew Dean and assisted by experienced and accomplished Jog Leaders Lucja Leonard, Eleanor Mackenzie and Gillian White.

Spaces for classes on Tuesday are sold in 10 week blocks, the current price is £25. (Occasionally we will run shorter blocks and charge less). Spaces are open to members and non-members. All classes incorporate speed/strength/endurance and are very sociable and great fun!

You can book your space by paying your at reception (card payments over the phone are also welcome). All new bookees are required to fill out a jogScotland application form.

Participants from the last block have a priority period to book in for the next session. Bookings are open to all in advance of the block starting.

Fiona and Brendan, who formerly ran the Tuesday night groups also use Westwoods as a meeting point for Saturday pay as you go classes which are £3 per week. Westwoods have no involvement in the organisation of the Saturday sessions, so if you wish to get involved you need to contact the jog leaders directly by e-mail:

Saturday Pay As You Go Sessions

Please contact the Jog Leaders directly for booking information. Unlike the Tuesday and Thursday blocks, you can only join the Saturday blocks by paying the jog leader directly. Please note that for campus security reasons access to the Club is via the Westwoods gate only. Parking is not available in the Westwoods car park for Jog Scotland participants on a Saturday.


0930am-1030am Steady run for approx 1 hour.  5-6min km speed.

NEW intermediate 2 and beginners 2 10 week course starting 4th October.


0915am-1030am 10 week course.  For those who can jog for 40 mins or 5k.

1030am-1130am 10 week course.  For those who can jog for 15 mins, or are fairly fit, bring a friend.

Please note - no car parking in Westwoods carpark but lots of bike parking.

Further Information

Please make sure you bring suitable clothing, wear quality running shoes and bring a water bottle with you to hydrate during the sessions.

If you have booked in and can't make it, please contact Westwoods reception on 0131 332 5777 and we will let the Jog Leader know.

In the event of extreme weather, the decision to cancel any sessions will be taken by the Jog Leader. If we have to cancel a session we will do our best to contact you and we will offer you an equivalent discount on the next block.

We encourage you to book in to full blocks as it is cheaper and helps you progress faster. You can only join a block half way through the session if there is space and the Jog Leader is happy that you will slot in without disrupting the group. You will be charged £4 for each week remaining or £25, whichever is cheaper.
